Inspiration: Where Do You Get Yours?

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

In a recent interview, I was asked the question of where I get my inspiration from. This is a normal question for photographers, but it's one that I've been thinking on for awhile now. For the past year or so, I've really been working on defining my personal style as a photographer. Once I nailed down the technical end of things, I wanted to be able to flow in what fit bests with my artistic expression. Some photographers specialize in producing stunning black and white images, while others create a high-fashion look for their clients. So, as I'm delving into what defines my shooting style, I've thought a great deal about where I draw inspiration.

Ultimately, as a follower of Jesus Christ, I draw inspiration from the Ultimate Creator. He is the reason I wake up everyday and get to do what I LOVE--my goal is to glorify God in the process. Before every shoot, I'm asking the Lord to allow creativity to flow and get my mind thinking outside the box. So, whether it's in an amazing blue sky that He's created, or watching people interacting with one another, I'm constantly trying to be aware of where I can draw new ideas in my head.

Other places that I look for to be inspired are other photographers blogs. Of course, you guys know that I have a love affair going on with Christine Hall and her work. I also have a huge secret crush on Tara Whitney. I love looking at my friend, Candice's blog and seeing what's going on in her world and business. These places I identify the most with because they inspire and challenge me to be excellent in what I'm doing in my art.

And, I most definitely draw inspiration from magazines. I LOVE going to Borders or Barnes and Noble and reading magazines. That's so relaxing to me. One of my new favorite magazines is Cookie. It's a lifestyle family magazine that has a fresh and whimsical feel to it. I'm really considering getting a subscription, so I don't have to spend almost $4 a month on it! Below is an example of how I take things that inspire me and put a twist on it to make it my own.

Fell in love with the family on February's cover....

Here's my personal spin on it....below, Maddie is actually doing a cartwheel for me! What a fun family....
Corradino Family

And here's some "inspire boards" hung above my work station that make me happy everyday :)

I will be posting the fun Corradino family tomorrow. But, that's all for today, folks! So, leave a comment below and tell me where you get your inspiration from. Inspire me!
